Follow Him

Follow Him

Matthew 16:24-25

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.

I’ve seen this verse many times before but today when I saw it something clicked for me. Let me elaborate. Many times people say you need to “get saved”. I mean yes we need to acknowledge Jesus as Savior and Lord, but once saved they don’t do anything about it. What we don’t realize when we say this is that we don’t need to get ourselves saved, Jesus Christ already did that when He died and rose again fulfilling scripture and conquering death. If your goal in your relationship with Jesus is just to “get saved” that’s not truly being a disciple of Christ. You may believe but as it says in James 2:19, “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.”

Jesus’ call to us is all throughout the Gospels, when He calls us to follow Him.  Not once does Jesus tell someone to “get saved”, because that was His job. Our purpose is to follow and worship the God of all creation. We must deny ourselves, take up our cross, and Follow Him.

Hope in Persecution

Hope in Persecution

It can be hard when you feel like your on the outside. You can feel persecuted and hurt. But I want to tell you something today that might give you hope. When the world knocks you down and tries to tell you that your not enough, DON’T LISTEN. You are a Child of God! You were made for so much more than fitting in, in this world. It reaffirms this in John 15:19 when it says, “If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.” God has had chosen you to be with Him, and there is no greater honor than that. When you are persecuted it can make you feel hurt and alone,  but YOU ARE NOT ALONE. God is with you and has sent His Spirit into you. Psalm 34:18, “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (ESV). He is with us in our times of trouble. So Remember when persecution comes that we have a joy in Him even in the bad times, because He is a good, good, God. No matter what people say you are worth way more than you could even fathom to the God of the Universe. As it says in Mark 8:36, “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” The world does not determine who you are, the only one who does is the Creator of the world, and He says YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.

Put the Unity Back in Opportunity

Recently, a lot of bad things have been happening around the world. Whether it be attacks on police, terrorist attacks from ISIS, wars, new spreading of deadly sicknesses, people of differing political viewpoints battling back and forth, or the persecution of us as Christians, it can be easy just to despair in it. But in all of it there is hope. For even in the darkest of times God has a plan for good. I feel God whispering this to me. But I also feel God saying to my heart that if we are to piece this world back together we need to be united in doing so.  All across the world people are divided by occupation, race, political viewpoints, and many more, but if we put our differences aside and come together I know we can change this world for the better. God has created everyone for a reason. You are here at this moment in time during these events for a reason. Ephesians 1:11 says “In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will.”Even as I say all this we unite as Christians, churches, countries, and people of the world we must remember and realize that the true and only unifier is God. He is the One over all things, who speaks and things spring forth, who breathes life into us. To God be all the praise. In my heart, I know it is God’s will speaking this message to me, because when I go to scripture I see the following verse and all the dots seem to connect. Ephesians 1:9-10, “He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ,  to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment- to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.” I feel in this the End Times drawing near and as segregate and divide ourselves beyond the hope of man, Christ will come to unify us once again.

He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the Risen King. He’s the Prince of Peace, the Lord of Lords, and the Savior of the world. He is my Provider, my Protector, my Kinsmen Redeemer, my best friend, the Way, the Truth, and the Light. He is my Healer, my Shepard, and the Coming King.  He is the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob. He is the Great I Am. He is Love and my Joy. He is perfect and blameless even though I fail over and over again He is faithful! He is great and awesome God who reigns forever. He keeps me safe in troubled waters and His love for me has no bounds. He is my Love. He is my Keeper. And He is my God!

The Tree of Good and Evil

Recently, I was reading Genesis and something really stuck out to me. Genesis 2:9 says, “Out of the ground the Lord God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” If you’ve read this story before then you know that later on that God tells them that Adam and Eve can from any tree from the garden except from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, because if they do they will die. Well, Adam and Eve eat the fruit which brings sin into the world and eventually they do die. When I pause and look at the name of the tree it just makes so much sense to me. I realize that when Adam and Eve sinned they finally understood good and evil, because when you have experienced evil and corruption you start to look back and see how blessed you really were. It makes you more grateful for the small blessings every day, because you understand and cherish the good. I can’t help feeling that even through all the pain, corruption, and evil that surrounds us that God is doing something amazing in all of us. When we get to Heaven it will be all the more sweeter because we know that it is good.

Fear

Sometimes fear can control us and make it hard to sleep at night, whether its being afraid of the dark or worrying about your next paycheck. I think everyone’s had a fear sometime or another, it’s just part of human nature. Nevertheless, fear can start to grip onto us so much that it controls every aspect of our lives. You feel like it some great weight you will always have to bear. But God came down to die and rise again so we don’t have to be afraid of anything. If we trust in Him, we’ll see what amazing plans He’s had for us all along. In Jeremiah 29:11-14 it says,”I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you a hope and a future”. God is watching out for us, taking care of every need. Also it says in Matthew 6:31-32 “So do not worry saying ‘what shall we eat?’ or ‘what shall we drink?’ or ‘what shall we wear?’ for the pagans run after all these things, and Your Heavenly Father knows that you need them.” We don’t have to worry or fear anything in life because God is always with us. “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”-Mathew 28:20b

As Surely As The Sun Rises In The East…

There was a time when I was blind, but that has passed. There was a time where I was wandering in shadows, but now I walk in the light. The ways of the world to which I am oblivious. Grace falls on me now like fresh fallen snow. I can grow now, not choked by the weeds of sin. Freedom in Christ. Life, Liberty, and Grace. That is my anthem song. When I shall breathe no more and my heart has stopped I will not fear for I know where I am going. The rays of the sun are dim compared to the shining glory of His love for His children. I will rejoice today, tomorrow, and the next day because I have the grace and love of God. We can have joy and celebrate each and every day because we are not alone. We are God’s masterpiece!!! When things threaten to take that joy away, we shall stand firm in His love. For as surely as the sun rises in the east I can say that Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, loves me and saves me from sin and death.

Love Greater Than Ten Thousand Universes Combined

In our hearts we lose ourselves, find ourselves, or commit to the long monotony of sameness. I ask you to do something and feel something in your heart. What good is a hundred lives of comfort if we are committed of being bystanders of evil? Who are we to judge others? Who are we to place blame when we have an ocean of sins? But the wonderful thing is Jesus died and rose again. The ultimate sacrifice of giving away ourselves so another may live in freedom and righteousness. We are saved by God. This is no small matter, which I feel sometimes we downplay the greatness of His sacrifice. Would you be willing to go outside and save your neighbor if an intruder came to their house? I don’t know what your answer is or even mine to be completely honest. But Jesus gave it all. He could have had luxury, wealth, and power, yet He didn’t because His love for us is greater than ten thousand universes combined. What are we willing to do for our neighbor and for God, not for our glory, but for our heavenly Father’s glory. I hope this makes you think about the love God has for us which is so great. Thank you for reading.

What Is Love?

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”IMG_5242Paul is telling us in this verse what love is, but as it says in John 4:8 “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”  Don’t you see that in describing love he is describing God? For God is love, and He is patient, kind, and keeps no record of wrongs… He is all these things in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. It shows us who God is, and though we sin and mess up God’s love for us is eternal.

God, The Author Of Our Lives

Life. It’s so crazy and unpredictable to the human mind. The mind itself is a mind boggling mystery. How can we understand fully everything that goes on in life if we don’t even understand ourselves? But I don’t say this to discourage you. For the mere fact of the mystery of the things we don’t understand excites me in ways you can’t imagine. It makes my stomach fill up with butterflies flapping their wings in unison. It brings a huge goofy grin to my face and I feel like dancing around and whooping at the top of my lungs. For this reassures my faith. If we understood everything there would be no adventure or excitement in life, no hope for a greater tomorrow or thinking that helping one soul can change the world. For as an author knows what the character will do and how it will respond and knows its deepest fears and desires even before they do. God is the same way. He knows us and understands us even when we don’t know ourselves. Like an author, God places obstacles in our lives to bring us to something greater. Just like how authors have the plot of the story and the climax where the character is at extreme difficulty, but later on when you read you see that the difficulty had to happen for the character to get the reward impossible without the difficulty of before. Don’t you see! God is the author of our lives!!!
